Town of Knightstown

Located about 33 miles east of Indianapolis, Knightstown is situated between the Big Blue River and Montgomery Creek on U.S. Hwy. 40. Known as a historic, rural community, Knightstown offers a low cost of living, the convenience of interstate travel, proximity to Indianapolis and conveniences necessary to navigate day-to-day life. With a population of 2,182 people in the 2010 census, the town has that friendly, small town Indiana vibe.Knightstown is famous for having the Hoosier Gym where the movie “Hoosiers” was filmed in 1986.

Knightstown has welcomed new downtown business in the last few years and entrepreneurs have added “great places to eat” to the list of Knightstown attractions. Visitors and residents in Knightstown can enjoy homemade donuts served with “Hoosier hospitality” as well as a farm to table breakfast at Ye Olde Corner Bakery, then head over to the Birch Tree Café and Bakery or Los Charros for lunch, have an afternoon snack at Itty Bitty Bakery or Delish and finish off the day at Block and Brew or Red Bone’s Pizza and Chicken.

Additionally, Knightstown is known for an assortment of residential, commercial and public buildings built in its’ early settlement days, showing that the town was and is clearly one of Henry County's preeminent communities. Remarkably, the people who have called Knightstown home throughout the years have cared for the history of the town and the history of their homes, creating a beautiful setting for people who desire a life outside the hustle and bustle of larger cities and towns. The downtown area of Knightstown became a designated historic district in 1985; the Glen Cove Cemetery was named to the National Register of Historic Places in 2018; and many homes throughout the community have been designated historical sites.

According to datausa.io in 2018, Knightstown employed 989 people, with the largest industries employing 219 in manufacturing, 177 in healthcare and 123 in accommodation and food services.There are a variety of employers in Knightstown that include companies who specialize in commercial general contracting, development of upscale housing at market rates in less densely populated areas, manufacturing, antique dealers, and a variety of professional service firms such as accounting and investment services.Additionally, Knightstown is home of a bridal retailer known throughout the Midwest, has a boutique shop, florist, a medical facility, an eye doctor and dentists within the town limits.

Ideally situated in proximity to Summit State Park, Mounds State Park, the Henry County Memorial Park, Royal Highlands Golf Course, Yogi Bear Campground, as well as Knightstown’s own park and recreation sites, residents have ample opportunity to enjoy outdoor activities close to home. Whether people enjoy kayaking the river, canoeing at the Knightstown lake, taking a walk on the National Road Heritage Trail or fishing in a stocked pond at Sunset Park, there are a lot of opportunities to get outside!

The Town is currently involved in many exciting projects and plans intended to energize the community and assure that Knightstown continues to prosper and is ready for future growth.
