City of Sullivan

Sullivan is a city in Hamilton Township, Sullivan County, Indiana, United States. The population was 4,249 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Terre Haute Metropolitan Statistical Area. For residents who both live and work downtown, the heart of the city has everything you need. Within a four-block area, citizens have access to two grocery stores, the County Library, four local restaurants, eight places of worship, medical centers, a pharmacy, a post office, and the Sullivan Civic Center. Residents and visitors can enjoy some of the most beautiful natural areas around just a few miles away from our exciting and thriving downtown scene. Sullivan County Park and Lake draws thousands of visitors every year between April and October. The park contains 600 campsites and is considered by locals a “golf cart community” because of all the camping, fishing, and boating that draw people in. The biggest draw of all is the annual Fourth of July Festival, where people can pull out their picnic blankets and watch the fireworks go off over the lake. History buffs have plenty to see too, between the Historic Downtown Gymnasium from the early 1900’s. To the buildings on the National Register of Historic Place, such as the Sullivan County Courthouse, the Historic Sherman House, and Carnegie Library. In the city of Sullivan, having a great education system is one of our highest priorities. We take pride in our public schools, from elementary to high school, and everybody makes their way out to support and cheer our Golden Arrows wherever and whenever they are playing. For greater education opportunities students check out Innovate Sullivan, a ground-breaking incubator shared working space with cutting-edge encoding classes and entrepreneurial start up opportunities. Along with several other educational institutes. Sullivan is less than a half hour away from several other acclaimed institutions of higher learning like, Vincennes University, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana, and Indiana State University, which has a 435-acre campus that houses students from 65 countries from around the world.

The City of Sullivan has exciting plans in the works for our residents and our visitors. We are working to make our city more vibrant and to enhance the quality of life in Sullivan, Indiana. A few examples of this are the emerging trail system throughout the city, as well as a current City Park revitalization campaign. With the assistance of our residents, civic organizations, schools, churches, and our businesses--combined with an attitude for positive action--we can achieve our goals together.
